The topic for today’s British Accent practice post is: Music
How can these posts help improve your RP British Accent? Put aside 5 minutes a day and find a quiet place to sit and listen. Play either the audio or video file and listen to the vocab covered. Each word is usually repeated so try and copy the word out loud on the repeat.
You may find it difficult to work out whether you are repeating the word correctly. It can help if you record yourself and then listen back to your own voice. It may feel uncomfortable at first to listen to yourself as we often believe that we sound much different to the voice we hear on playback! Try and work through this initial reaction and focus on the sounds that you are hearing – is it an exact replica of my pronunciation? Do you start the word correctly but the end falls short? Do some vowel or consonant sounds trip you up? You may find that your native accent lends you to making a particular sound instead of the correct one : for example many native speakers confuse the ‘f’ sound with the ‘v’ sound.
Really listen to how you say words – be critical! If you need more dedicated help mastering the RP British Accent Sounds then sign up to the 9 Weeks To A Great British Accent Course.
